The winger put in an excellent display with two assists to help deliver a first Premier League win under Amorim as United beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday. The 22-year-old has started three league matches in a row, racking up four assists in that run
Amad’s excellent display caused a stir among Red Devils fans online and Amorim joined in the praise as he credited former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy for his impact on the Ivorian. However, the Portuguese coach urged the youngster to continue on this path.
“He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he also has to improve. He was really good again,” Amorim told reporters. “Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he’s helping me. He’s in a great moment, but that moment started with Ruud. So I just take advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad! He was really good defending and really good attacking so he has to continue to play like that. You could feel it in the end of the game he was really, really tired so we have to manage that and increase his physical ability. I’d like to take credit for [Amad’s pressing], but that’s him. He’s like that. He’s smart. He’s explosive.”
Amad will likely get to keep his place in the Red Devils’ starting XI when they come up against second-placed Arsenal in the league on Wednesday.
Manchester United cruised to a 4-0 Premier League victory over Everton with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee each netting twice.
Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes both played pivotal roles, registering two assists apiece.
Amorim praised Diallo after the game. He said (via BBC Sport): “He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he is also has to improve.
“He is a great moment. Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he’s helping me.”
The new United head coach has seemingly taken a dig at Erik ten Hag who did not give Diallo enough opportunities to shine.
Ten Hag often chose Antony over Diallo even when the Brazilian never performed to expectations.

He impressed everyone by scoring two goals and recording an assist.
The £18 million-rated ace has already earned two starts under Amorim, with many initially surprised by his selection as a wing-back.
However, the youngster is proving it was a masterstroke by the Portuguese coach.
United have rarely used the right flank to attack in recent years. Most of their attacks have come through the left wing.
Diallo has been a breath of fresh air on the right wing.
His intense pressing resulted in two mistakes from Everton’s defence in the build-up to United’s goals.
One of those instances helped him earn an assist.
He brilliantly set up Rashford just moments into the second half to score and earned 9/10 in our post-match player ratings.
He could have bagged a perfect ten but missed a scoring opportunity early in the game.
It is clear that Diallo has made the right wing-back spot his own.
The Ivory Coast international put in an excellent performance as he got two assists as the Red Devils beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has started United’s last three Premier League games – one under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and two under new boss Ruben Amorim – and has managed at least one assist in each. The club’s fans are delighted to see Amad benefit from a run in the team and vented their anger at Ten Hag, who did not show as much trust in him before his sacking in October
A United supporter on X, @utdHarryy, wrote: “The way Ten Hag treated Amad he should be sent to prison,” and @TheWavyRed agreed, saying: “Really can’t believe Ten Hag was really giving Antony minutes all season but tried gatekeeping Amad Diallo from the world, what a player. ETH needs to be jailed.
Another fan, @ManUnitedMedia, said: “Amad is the best pressing player we have by a million miles, and Ten Hag, who wanted to play pressing football, barely used him.”
The Dutchman may still be in charge of United had he used the Ivorian more, argued @Nyagzzzz: “I’m not even kidding when I say Amad could’ve saved Ten Hag’s job.”
And @tsnmknd wrote: “Erik ten Hag should be hired just so he can be fired again. Why on God’s green earth did he not platform Amad?!”
“I backed Ten Hag for a lot of things as you know, but his treatment towards Amad was simply criminal,” said @AmorimEra_. “We were THIS close to losing him.”
After that starring display, Amad will aim to help guide United to another win when they take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Ruben Amorim has suggested that the final scoreline flattered Manchester United in their 4-0 win over Everton as he singled out Amad Diallo for special praise.
The Red Devils recorded their biggest Premier League win of the season so far on Sunday afternoon as Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee notched a brace each at Old Trafford.
It capped off a fine few days for the new United head coach as he achieved his first victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night and can now celebrate getting off the mark domestically.
However, despite the large margin of victory, Amorim insists the game was more difficult than the scoreline suggests.
“The result was good, but we were pragmatic,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “I think it was not pretty but we were pragmatic, our job is to win but you can feel that we have a long way to go.
“You can feel that in the first minutes that we are OK and then Everton control the game and then in the right moments we scored the goals and that changes the game.
“You have to not just focus on the result but focus on the way the result appeared.
“We have so much to do but it’s better to work with victories. Let’s focus on the performance more than the result.
“You can feel it during the game. It isn’t a line of top performances, it is a rollercoaster of performances,” he added.
“We have some moments when we are good but then we have moments when we have to suffer. We did it again like in the Europa League. We need time to train and time to improve, but like I said, it’s better to work with victories.”
