Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen coaches, Kompany and Alonso have all come out to lend their voices in support for reduction of player’s workload.
According to Kompany, it’s very unrealistic to be able to play up to 80 matches in a season. In his words:
“To play 75, 80 games. It’s gets to a point where it’s not realistic anymore. The solution I’ve always wanted is to put a cap on the amount of games a player can play as an individual. Put a cap, out a compulsory holidays for players”
While the Leverkusen manager on the other hand stressed that there is a need for players to have a say in decisions regarding the fixtures calendar. He acknowledged the tight schedule and expressed support for players desires to be involved in these decisions.
All this is coming after players like Rodri, Kounde, and Thibaut complained bitterly over the increased numbers if fixtures and tournaments to compete for in this season.
They said that playing too many games in a season will cause burnout and a lot of injuries to players.
